Meet Kelly

Background

Kelly is an artist based out of Bozeman Montana. She has a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the University of Montana, where she specialized in ceramics and metalsmithing.

Inspiration

"I like to find different ways of expressing the human form. This includes blending abstraction with realistic figures. My themes center on the human experience by bringing emotions to life: highlighting personal strength, the inner beauty of the soul, and the love for the experiences of life. I love ceramics for its texture, versatility, and connection to the earth. I love being surrounded by the wild. Drawing inspiration from the earth; my work's lines and composition mimic how nature bends and flows. You can see this influence in my art through the abstract lines and how the body is composed."

Process

My Process involves wheel-thrown ceramics, hand-building techniques, and hand-made slip-casting molds. I like being able to manipulate the clay in a way that makes it feel human-made. I use black underglaze and a paintbrush to Draw illustrations onto pottery. I utilize Mason Stains to create colorful effects and then I finish them off with my favorite glazes

Kelly lives in Bozeman MT., surrounded by mountains, living the life she always wanted as a mother and Visual Artist.  When She is not in the studio you will find her teaching local community art classes or enjoying time with her children and exploring the mountains of Montana.
